An Overview of Flight Test Results for a Formation Flight Autopilot

چکیده
The first flight test phase of the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center Autonomous Formation Flight project has successfully demonstrated precision autonomous station-keeping of an F/A-18 research airplane with a second F/A-18 airplane. Blended inertial navigation system (INS) and global positioning system (GPS) measurements have been communicated across an air-to-air telemetry link and used to compute relative-position estimates. A precision research formation autopilot onboard the trailing airplane controls lateral and vertical spacing while the leading airplane operates under production autopilot control. Four research autopilot gain sets have been designed and flight-tested, and each exceeds the project design requirement of steady-state tracking accuracy within 1 standard deviation of 10 ft. Performance also has been demonstrated using singleand multiple-axis inputs such as step commands and frequency sweeps. This report briefly describes the experimental formation flight systems employed and discusses the navigation, guidance, and control algorithms that have been flight-tested. An overview of the flight test results of the formation autopilot during steady-state tracking and maneuvering flight is presented.

Nonlinear Optimal Control Techniques Applied to a Launch Vehicle Autopilot
This paper presents an application of the nonlinear optimal control techniques to the design of launch vehicle autopilots. The optimal control is given by the solution to the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation, which in this case cannot be solved explicity. A method based upon Successive Galerkin Approximation (SGA), is used to obtain an approximate optimal solution. Simulation results invo...

In this paper, a robust autopilot is proposed using stable interpolation based on Youla parameterization. The most important condition of stable interpolation between local controllers is the preservation of stability so that each local controller can ensure stability for an open neighborhood around a nominal point. The proposed design used fixed-order robust controller with parameter-dependent...

This paper presents a tuned behavior-based guidance algorithm for formation flight of quadrotors. The behavior-based approach provides the basis for the simultaneous realization of different behaviors such as leader following and obstacle avoidance for a group of agents; in our case they are quadcopters. In this paper optimization techniques are utilized to tune the parameters of a behavior-bas...
